Ford NZ launches PHEV at event

The new Ford Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) has made its debut on the opening day of Fieldays.

It marks Ford New Zealand’s first entry into the electric vehicle (EV) passenger market and orders for the SUV can be placed from June 17, 2021.

The Escape’s debut is among the highlights for the Ford NZ team at Fieldays, which is being held at Mystery Creek, near Hamilton, from June 16 to 19.

Last year, the southern hemisphere’s largest annual agricultural event and launch platform for technology and innovation was restricted to being held online because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Simon Rutherford, Ford NZ’s managing director, says: “It’s great to be going back at Fieldays this year; one of our favourite events.

“It’s a unique event for both our head office and dealer teams where people can come in to check out our latest vehicles, get information, ask questions or just have a yarn. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet and catch up with people.”

The Ford Escape PHEV will be on display at the company’s stand throughout the event and from July 1 will attract the $5,750 government rebate for customers.

Its power-split architecture combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, electric motor and generator with a 14.4kWh lithium-ion battery.

Drivers can choose when and how to deploy battery power using EV Auto, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge modes.

A full range of commercial and passenger Fords are on show at Fieldays, including the recently arrived Mustang Mach 1. Various editions of the Ford Ranger will also be available for customers to cast their eye over.

Visitors to the marque’s stand can learn about current and future Ford technologies and low-emissions models at its dedicated EV section.
