Great teamwork outdoors

Nissan NZ is backing Kiwis’ adventurous spirit by teaming up with Fishing and Adventure and providing the television show’s crew with two Navaras capable of towing their sizeable Surtees fishing boats around the country.

The partnership, announced in 2024, brings together two brands with a “shared passion” for exploring the outdoors. With fishing expeditions spanning remote coastlines and rugged terrain, the utes play an important role in getting team members, their boats and equipment where they need to be.

For the car company, the partnership provides an opportunity to demonstrate the Navara’s practical strengths in real-world conditions.

“We have a long association with Kiwis who enjoy getting outdoors,” says Sri Padmanabhan, Nissan NZ’s managing director.

“Fishing and Adventure embodies that adventurous spirit. The Navara is a natural fit for the team, combining towing capability with four-wheel drive [4WD] performance and the versatility needed to support adventures.”

For presenters Scott Parry and Mig Rumney, having a capable tow vehicle is essential to keeping the show on the move.

“We’re stoked to have Nissan on board,” says Parry. “We’ve owned different Nissan models over the years, so it’s a brand we know and trust.

“Holy Ship is a serious boat, and being able to tow it safely and comfortably is hugely important. We travel to all sorts of places, so having a vehicle that can handle the boat, gear and kilometres between destinations makes a real difference.”

Rumney adds the Navara’s 4WD capability is equally valuable when adventures take the crew beyond the sealed road.

He says: “Getting to some of our fishing spots means dealing with gravel roads, boat ramps and conditions that can change quickly. Having 4WD capability gives us extra confidence when we need traction, particularly when towing.

“The Navara is a great all-rounder. It’s practical for everyday running around. But when it’s time to hitch up the boat and head away on an adventure, it’s ready to go.”
