Dealership group launches subscription service

The Ebbett Group has become the latest company to offer a vehicle subscription service as it responds to the changing needs of consumers.

The company, which represents 18 marques across 15 dealerships in the North Island, says Ebbett Subscribe will offer flexibility at a time when vehicle ownership is no longer appropriate for everyone.

Executive director Richard van den Engel, pictured, adds: “At the Ebbett Group, our aim is to supply mobility in the forms our customers want to access it.

“For 93 years that’s been through selling and leasing but people are increasingly seeking more flexible alternatives, so now we’re offering the best of that service as well.”

He notes the subscription scheme may appeal to people concerned about “big deposits, high balloon payments, low trade-in values, long-term commitments, unexpected repair bills, expensive insurance or any other element of the vehicle ownership experience”.

Ebbett Subscribe offers a range of nearly-new vehicles, from hatchbacks to utes, with plan options starting from $179 a week.

There is a flexible plan featuring a seven-day notice period after the first 21 days, or a longer-term option with a reduced weekly payment but a minimum commitment of 30 weeks.

Turners and the Giltrap Group began operating similar services in October and December 2020 respectively.
