Changes in odo-check sector

AA Motoring and JEVIC are ending their exclusive odometer-verification partnership on Japanese vehicle imports, allowing the AA to also work with other industry partners.

The move is a result of AA Motoring’s plans to launch a preferred dealer network in the new year.

Dealers have until December 11 to make an expression of interest to join the AA’s network, which will be free to join.

Jonathan Sergel, the AA’s general manager of motoring services, says his association and JEVIC have a longstanding relationship and will continue to work together.

“We look forward to maintaining this successful relationship while moving to a non-exclusive partnership with JEVIC on odometer verification,” he adds. “Doing this gives us the opportunity to also work with others in the industry.

“A cornerstone of the AA Preferred Dealer Network is the requirement for dealers to have AA odometer-verified window stickers on freshly imported vehicles, so we’re hoping opening the doors to other odometer-verification partners will in turn mean more dealers will be able to join our network.

“We’ve begun engaging with other industry partners around odometer verification and will be able to provide more details soon.”

Euan Philpot, director and chief executive officer of JEVIC NZ, says: “We are likewise looking forward to continuing our relationship with the AA.

“We are the market leader for pre-shipment inspection services in Japan. Odometer verification is an important assurance product JEVIC provides for the AA and, more importantly, the consumer.”

Dealers wanting to join the AA Preferred Dealer Network will also need to sell AA Appraised Used Cars, which have had an AA warrant of fitness, have a tidy dealership and a customer-first mentality.

A minimum of 80 per cent of vehicles available through the dealership must be AA Appraised.

In addition to having AA odometer-verified window stickers, their freshly imported vehicles will need to have completed AA Entry Compliance.

Benefits of joining the AA Preferred Dealer Network include the use of AA Motoring branding on dealers’ signage and digital channels.

Then there’s promotion to AA members and AA Smartfuel cardholders, and the exclusive option to offer customers AA Smartfuel discounts and AA Dealer Care – the addition of up to five roadside breakdown call-outs a year to a vehicle – as part of their customer retention programmes.
