Typhoon-damaged vehicles

Following the recent typhoon in Japan, VIA, (the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association), has reason to believe that significant numbers of damaged vehicles are now becoming available for import.

VIA is advising strongly against importing any of these vehicles due to the vehicles obtaining a 'damage' flag at the border inspection, compliance problems, repair certification issues, consumer issues and Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal issues.

VIA has been advised that NZTA is working closely with Japanese authorities, and will be travelling to Japan soon where they will be discussing damaged vehicles.

For any questions, please contact VIA technical manager Malcolm Yorston on 0800 VIA VIA (842 842) or email technical@via.org.nz.
