The best-selling new passenger vehicle of last year was Toyota’s RAV4, pictured, with 8,753 registrations to claim 7.9 per cent of the market.
The Mitsubishi Outlander came second with 4,055 and 3.7 per cent, while third place went to Tesla’s Model Y on 3,932 and 3.6 per cent.
Fourth position on the ladder was claimed by the Suzuki Swift with 3,919 units for a 3.5 per cent share of the market, while Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Cross rounded out the top five on 3.3 per cent and 3,641 sales.
Overall, there were 110,406 new cars registered last year. That was down by five per cent compared to 116,278 in 2022.
As anticipated, Toyota was 2023’s most popular marque for sales of new passenger vehicles with 21,909 units for a 19.8 per cent share of the market.
Mitsubishi was second with 10,282 and 9.3 per cent. It was closely followed in third place by Kia on 9.1 per cent and 10,062 units.
As for the month of December, there were 8,559 new cars registered. That was up by 0.8 per cent versus 8,487 in the same month of 2022.
The MG4 was last month’s best-selling model on 622 units. Second place went to Toyota’s RAV4 with 439 and the Honda Jazz came third on 437.
December’s top marque was Toyota with 1,740. MG came second on 803 and Mitsubishi was third with 710.
