BMW issues multiple recalls

BMW has issued safety recalls for a number of models with potential faults affecting seatbelts, air conditioning and special sensors.

One notice says the rear left seatbelt in affected BMW 1 Series units from the 2025 model year may not have been manufactured correctly.

Another one highlights a potential problem in 7 Series and 5 Series models from 2023-25, noting cables may be damaged when replacing the vehicles’ microfilter.

“The air conditioning microfilter is regularly replaced as part of the oil service,” the marque says. “Damaged cables may lead to air conditioning malfunctions as well as a short circuit.”

The X3, for model years 2025-26, has also been recalled because of a sensor that records a driver’s steering requirements.

“A software program monitors the function of the sensor and compares the signals,” explains BMW.

“In the vehicles concerned, due to an error in the software, a malfunction of the sensor may not always be detected correctly.”

The recalls were issued on October 2 and affected owners are advised to contact an authorised BMW dealership to arrange repairs.

Toyota RAV4 PHEV, model year 2026

Recall issued: October 9. The hazard: The motor generator electronic control unit may not complete the motor initialisation process correctly, resulting in the motor control mode used for higher speeds being unavailable. In such instances, warning lights will illuminate and the PHEV system will transition to a fail-safe driving mode or shut down. The latter scenario can lead to a loss of motive power and increase the risk of a crash. What to do: Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by registered letter, or they can contact Toyota’s customer dialogue centre.

Hyundai Kona, model years 2025-26

Recall issued: October 1. The hazard: The rear centre seat belt buckle assembly contains an internal base plate that may have been produced outside of specification. Such base plates may not properly restrain an occupant during an accident, increasing the risk of injury. What to do: Contact your local Hyundai dealer or service agent.

Ford Transit, model years 2025-26

Recall issued: September 25. The hazard: Due to a manufacturing defect, vehicles may experience a gradual decline in windshield wiper performance or a sudden and complete loss of wiper operation. This may lead to poor visibility for the driver. What to do: Present vehicle to a Ford dealer.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, model years 2023-24

Recall issued: September 25. The hazard: The occupant restraint controller module on 14,595 vehicles may contain software that causes transient door airbag pressure sensor faults to remain active for the lifetime of the sensor. This may delay deployment of the side airbag, which could reduce front-seat occupant protection in a crash and increase the risk of injury. What to do: Present the vehicle to a Jeep service centre to have the module checked and updated if required.

BYD Shark 6, model years 2024-26

Recall issued: September 14. The hazard: A potential issue with the spare wheel lifter assembly has been identified and the incorrect positioning of the spare wheel tray or insufficient fastening torque may cause abnormal wear of the spare wheel support cable. This may cause the cable to fracture and result in the spare wheel becoming detached, creating a hazard to other road users and potentially causing serious injury or death. What to do: To continue driving a possibly affected vehicle, owners should remove the spare wheel. Affected vehicles will have the spare wheel lifter assembly replaced with an updated design free of charge.
