Toyota boosts airbag recalls
The latest round of call-backs published by the government covers cars made by New Zealand’s biggest distributor.
Toyota has issued recalls for model years 2000-09 for the Brevis, Corolla, Fielder, Gaia (pictured above) and Ipsum for hazards with their passenger front airbags.
They “may incorrectly deploy during an accident, possibly resulting in metallic projectile fragments causing injury to occupants. This concern is due to an improper manufacturing process of the airbag inflator”.
Traders and owners should contact their nearest authorised Toyota dealer to arrange a convenient time to have repairs completed.
BMW E46 3 series, model years 2001-03
Recall online: July 23, 2018.
The hazard: Possible fault with front passenger’s airbag when ignited.
What to do: Contact your local BMW dealer for free repairs.
Mercedes-Benz C Series, model year 2010
Recall online: July 23, 2018.
The hazard: Passenger airbag incorrect deployment.
What to do: Contact your nearest Mercedes-Benz NZ passenger car dealer.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class, model year 2016
Recall online: July 23, 2018.
The hazard: The propellant mixing ratio of specific seatbelt tensioner squibs – propellant – may not correspond to specifications. As a result, the squibs may not ignite in the case of an accident if the front tensioners are activated.
What to do: Contact your local Mercedes-Benz service outlet.
Subaru Forester, Impreza, Legacy, Outback, WRX, model years 2007-2014
Recall online: July 23, 2018.
The hazard: Certain vehicles fitted with a secondary air-injection system may fail due to a faulty relay and, in a worst-case scenario, the secondary air pump will run continuously. The pump can then overheat and partially melt causing odour or smoke and, in extreme circumstances, may pose the risk of fire.
What to do: Contact a Subaru-authorised dealer to have the recall carried out.
Repco 6,000kg vehicle support stands
Recall online: July 23, 2018.
The hazard: The main column may fracture, rather than bend, if a load is dropped on its outer most edge. If the column fractured, the load may fall causing serious injury or death.
What to do: Stop using the supports stands and return them to your nearest Repco store for a refund.
