Rush for photo ends in crash
A young cricket fan’s father was left embarrassed after accidentally crashing his car during a desperate bid to get a photograph of his son with Australian batsman Sam Konstas.
CCTV footage of the incident has been seen by millions of people worldwide after being posted online by the Sydney Thunder, who Konstas plays for in the Big Bash League.
It shows Sirajuddin Khan hurriedly parking his 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado at Cricket Central in Sydney Olympic Park this month before jumping out and running in the direction of the teenage cricket star.
But Khan forgot to take the Toyota out of gear or put on the handbrake and the vehicle rolled forward and hit another parked car despite him dashing back to try to stop the crash.
“At that moment, it all went wrong,” Khan told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I just bought that car last month.”
He explains the incident unfolded after his 12-year-old son was training at Cricket Central and had been keen to take photos of the Thunder players at the clinic.
Khan was planning to make a short stop at the venue when he spotted Konstas. He says he thought he would run to get his son from training in the hope he could then get a picture of the youngster and the test cricketer together.
Despite the mishap, Khan’s son managed to get a photo with Konstas while his father was surveying the damage in the carpark – “he didn’t even know about my accident”, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
