Maserati is hailing the start of a “new era” after its unveiling of the MC20 marked three major announcements in the space of just three months.

The Trident brand revealed the Ghibli Hybrid in July 2020, boosted the power of its Trofeo Collection in August, and in September it hosted the world premiere of the MC20 supercar.

Maserati says “innovation, passion and uniqueness guide the brand in this phase of total renewal”.

Changes to better equip it for the future have included a modernisation of its plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena, Italy, where it has been making cars for more than 80 years. The site has installed new production, engine assembly and painting facilities specifically for the MC20, pictured.

The supercar’s 630-horsepower V6 engine with torque of 730Nm, is called the Nettuno. It is the first creation of a new engine hub at the Modena site and delivers 0-100kph acceleration in under 2.9 seconds and a top speed of more than 325kph. 

Maserati took 24 months to produce the MC20 and the aerodynamics alone were designed through more than 2,000 man-hours in a wind tunnel. 

Other updates to the marque’s Modena facility include an innovation lab that is focusing on Folgore, the brand’s electrification strategy, and the new Grecale SUV.

The new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be the company’s first cars to adopt 100 per cent electric solutions and there will eventually be an electric version of the MC20. The first step in the range’s electrification is the Ghibli Hybrid, which was launched in July. 

Maserati’s Trofeo Collection is also complete. After the launch in 2018 of Levante Trofeo, the SUV’s most powerful version, the new Quattroporte and Ghibli Trofeo with a 580hp V8 engine are now available.
