Owners’ wacky car nicknames
British car owners have a growing affinity with EVs to the extent that nearly half of them give their vehicles nicknames, according to research from Isuzu UK.
Evie emerged as the number one choice and was used by 29 per cent of those who picked a name for their electric-powered car. Next up was Herbie on 15 per cent, Sparky with 13 per cent and Yoda on 10 per cent.
Some of those quizzed tapped into their EV’s quiet performance for inspiration and plumped for the nicknames Silent Ride, Hushmobile and Ghost Machine.
Further down the list and things get a bit wacky, with names such as Volty McVoltface and AC/DC-Angelo. Other owners have been inspired by Hollywood actors and called their cars Charge Clooney, Jolt Travolta, Zap Efron and Morgan Freecharge.
Other names in the top 25 include Lighting, E-motion, Chargezilla and Sparky McChargeface.
The affection Brits have for their cars doesn’t stop at nicknames, with the study revealing 49 per cent admit to regularly talking to their vehicle and 55 per cent saying they talk more to their car than to their loved ones.
The research of 2,000 Britons was commissioned by Isuzu UK and conducted by Perspectus Global in March 2025.
