Outlander dominates rivals

The Mitsubishi Outlander is New Zealand’s favourite seven-seat SUV, selling nearly twice as many units in the past two years than its closest rival.

There were 5,014 Outlanders sold over the past 24 months, according to the marque, while its nearest competitor only shifted 2,713 units.

More figures released by Mitsubishi Motors NZ (MMNZ) show the model has dominated the market for seven-set SUVs.

It has sold 1,315 units in the past three months, 2,013 in the past six months, and 2,789 Outlander in the past year.

The second-placed model in that category sold 501, 879 and 1,325 units respectively over the same periods.

Reece Congdon, head of marketing and corporate affairs, says the Outlander has performed consistently over the years and has started 2021 strongly.

“Outlander’s popularity is built on a proven heritage, developed over the years since it was first introduced in New Zealand,” he adds.

“We are extremely proud that Outlander continues to be an important part of the family for a large number of households across the country.”

Available in 2WD and 4WD, the Outlander offers cargo capacity of up to 1,685 litres.

The 2019 model year version, pictured above, helped propel it to the top of the leader board and MMNZ is expecting similar results when an all-new model, pictured below, arrives in September 2021.

Congdon says: “We will continue to work hard, through our dealership network, our high-performing parts and service teams and our award-winning customer care centre, to ensure that Mitsubishi remains the number one go-to for this segment.”
