Maserati shows off sold-out supercar

The new Maserati MC20 has made a flying visit down under but anyone wanting to get their hands on one of the supercars will have to wait until at least 2022.

It is the first new supercar the Italian marque has made in 15 years and carries a price tag of $390,000.

A model of the car was flown into Sydney for a media preview in October 2020, although the 2021 allocations of the vehicle on both sides of the Tasman are already sold out.

Glen Sealey, chief operating officer of Maserati Australia and New Zealand, says the MC20 marks Maserati’s launch into a new era.

“Elegant and sporty, efficient and lightweight – it’s a stunning supercar and clear statement of intent,” he adds.

The MC20 – MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020, the year of its world premiere –is powered by a Nettuno engine that has been developed by the marque and features patented F1 technology.

It produces 470kW and 730Nm, the V6 delivers 0-100kph in under 2.9 seconds, and the car has a top speed of 325kph. Maserati plans to offer a version with an electric powertrain in due course.

The model also features butterfly doors, an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, adjustable suspension, and five driving modes – wet, GT, sport, Corsa and ESC off.
