Kei class takes title

Honda’s N-Box was the best-selling car in Japan for the second straight year in 2023.

Sales of the mini-vehicle climbed by 14.4 per cent from 2022 to 231,385 units, according to industry associations.

The N-Box remained popular for its spacious interior and safety-assistance technology. Its full update after six years contributed to the sales jump.

Toyota’s Yaris sub-compact came second with 194,364 units, up by 15.3 per cent, followed by Daihatsu’s kei-class Tanto with a 47.8 per cent increase to 159,392.

Nissan’s Sakura – another mini-vehicle – was Japan’s best-selling electric car. It placed 36th in the overall rankings with 37,140 registrations.
