Hybrid sets world record
Nissan has set a new world record for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling after a Qashqai covered 1,980km on a single tank.
The Japanese marque is celebrating the achievement as a new milestone for e Power, its unique hybrid technology.
The record-breaking journey took place over four days in Colombia, travelling from Bogota to the Caribbean coast and covering a variety of road, traffic and driving conditions.
Every stage of the attempt in mid-July was independently monitored and verified by Guinness World Records judges, who certified the achievement after a detailed review process.
Nissan notes the drive follows other successful long-distance challenges in the UK and Australia and demonstrates how e Power consistently delivers efficiency and long-range capability.
Richard Candler, Nissan corporate executive, family, product and components strategy, says: “This fantastic record once again shows the capability of the latest generation of e-Power technology.
“Qashqai e-Power delivers efficiency, refinement and EV-like driving performance that we have focused around real customer driving needs.
“It also plays an important role in Nissan’s electrification journey, helping more drivers experience the benefits of electric driving as they move towards a fully electric future.”
Unlike conventional hybrid systems, the wheels in an e Power vehicle are driven exclusively by an electric motor, delivering the instant response, refinement and smooth acceleration associated with electric vehicles.
Nissan explains a petrol engine generates electricity when needed, eliminating the need for external charging while maintaining the convenience and flexibility of a conventional vehicle.
