Dixon extends perfect start

Scott Dixon has broken his duck at the GMR Grand Prix to maintain his perfect start to the Indy Car season

The New Zealand driver came from seventh on the grid to win the latest race in Indiana on July 6 (NZ time) and make it two wins from the opening two rounds.

Dixon, pictured, benefited from a caution period near the midway point of the race and from there he dominated in his No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

After finishing second in the race for the past three seasons, the five-time series champion was delighted with his latest win.

“So good to be racing here again at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” Dixon says. “We’ve had so many runner-up spots here on the road course. We got lucky.

The strategy, the team just nailed it. We got lucky with that caution. But as soon as we got the balance right, the PNC Bank No.9 just checked out.”

Dixon also won the season opener on the Texas Motor Speedway oval and now has 48 Indy Car victories, which puts him four wins behind Mario Andretti for number two on the all-time series list.

Graham Rahal finished second at the GMR Grand Prix in the No.15 Fifth Third Bank Honda and Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet was third.

The next NTT IndyCar Series event is a double-header, the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on July 11 and 12.
