Trader numbers hit reverse
Total drops back below 5,600 and is down nearly 250 dealers from a year ago.

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) decreased by six last month, bringing the total to 2,597 at the end of March.
The change reversed the rise in February and took the tally back to the same level recorded in January.
Last month’s figure is also 244 below the 2,841 registered traders at the end of March 2025.
Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,535 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
