Agency ‘listens’ to industry feedback
Two companies are praising the efforts and response of Waka Kotahi after securing five-year terms to operate as border-inspection organisations (BIOs).
As first revealed by Autofile Online on July 2, five operators passed the transport agency’s application process.
Three of the BIOs’ operations are based in Japan. They are JEVIC NZ, Bordercheck and Automotive Technologies Ltd (ATL).
The other two – New Zealand Biosecurity Services and Independent Verification Service – are based in this country.
Euan Philpot, pictured right, chief executive of JEVIC NZ, is pleased the transport agency has responded to industry feedback by lengthening the maximum appointment times to five years, which creates greater certainty for BIOs.
He adds: “Under the new notice of appointment, Waka Kotahi requires additional reporting information and we are working with our customers to meet this requirement.”
Keisuke Nagashima, pictured left, director of Bordercheck, says: “We have been MPI-approved up until now and it’s good to now get our systems and inspectors up to play with what Waka Kotahi expects.
“The application process was new for Waka Kotahi and us. Considering the impacts of Covid-19 and other disruptions over the past year, the agency has done what it can to the best of its ability to get everything under way by July 1.”
