Your chance to own Subaru Hollywood stunt car

One of the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRXs that starred in the opening bank robbery scene of the movie Baby Driver is up for sale.

Fans of the 2017 film, which starred Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Lily James and Kevin Spacey, can bid for the vehicle that features a long list of modifications.

The US-based seller says the Impreza is street legal and retains the factory all-wheel drive system but it was modified for stunt duty.

The original 2.0-litre engine was swapped out for a 300-horsepower, 2.5-litre unit, the driveline received a stronger clutch and beefier front and rear differentials, and a hydraulic hand brake helped the WRX go sideways.

Inside, the car boasts a WRX STI instrument cluster and other accessories. It is finished in red with a black leather interior, though it was originally painted blue, and has 75,270 miles (121,135km) on the clock.

Stunt driver Jeremy Fry, who executed the Subaru’s scenes in Baby Driver, says the Impreza WRX was chosen for the film because director Edgar Wright “wanted a pedestrian kind of car that would blend in but something that would also be cool”.

There had been 19 bids for the car as of 10am on July 17, with a US$28,600 (NZ$43,500) bid leading the way. The auction ends on July 21 (NZT).

In 2017, another WRX used in the movie sold for US$69,100 after receiving 71 bids.
