World’s fastest shed

A British mechanic and gardener has transformed a broken-down Volkswagen Passat into a record-breaking shed that has clocked a top speed of more than 170kph.

Kevin Nicks designed the unusual vehicle in 2015 and spent 12 months building the steel frame and wooden shiplap bodywork, installing an engine and making the vehicle roadworthy.

He first set the world land speed record for a shed in 2017 after achieving 80.673mph (129.831kph) at an airfield in the UK.

Nicks has topped that figure on a number of occasions since in the vehicle that is powered by a 450hp V6 twin-turbo Audi RS4 engine. The record now stands at 106.123mph (170.788kph), which he set over a standing mile (1.6km) in September 2020.

The road-legal motorised shed can be seen in action below and another clip online shows it outpacing a Vauxhall Astra over a quarter-mile sprint at Santa Pod Raceway.
