World Car of the Year finalists revealed
This year’s finalists for the World Car of the Year Awards have been announced at the Delhi Auto Show in India.
The awards, which are judged by a ballot of 86 automotive journalists from around the world, feature an overall World Car of the Year Award and five other categories.
Narrowed down from a list of 29 nominees, the 10 finalists for overall World Car of the Year are the Hyundai Sonata, pictured, Kia Soul EV, Kia Telluride, Range Rover Evoque, Mazda 3, Mazda CX-30, Mercedes CLA, Mercedes GLB, Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen T-Cross.
In the other five categories, the finalists for the World Urban Car Award are the Kia Soul EV, MINI Electric, Peugeot 208, Renault Clio and Volkswagen T-Cross.
The BMW X5, BMW X7, Mercedes EQC, Porsche 911 and Porsche Taycan will vie for the World Luxury Car Award. Meanwhile, the finalists for World Performance Car are the BMW M8, Porsche 718 Cayman/Spyder GT4, Porsche 911, Porsche Taycan and Toyota GR Supra.
Seven design experts are judging the World Car Design of the Year Award, which pits the Alpine 110S, Mazda 3, Mazda CX-30, Peugeot 208 and Porsche Taycan against each other. The fifth Award – World Car Person of the Year – is due to be announced at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 3.
The awards’ shortlists will also be whittled down to the top three in Geneva before the overall winners are announced at the New York International Auto Show on April 8.
The Jaguar I-PACE was crowned World Car of the Year in 2019.
