Wild EV ute revealed

The VinFast VF Wild could shake up the electric ute market, and rival Tesla’s Cybertruck and Ford’s F-150 Lightning.

Expected as early as 2026, the pick-up truck is likely to be produced at a future VinFast assembly plant in North America.

The manufacturer says the model is likely to change slightly from the concept, but it aims to build the truck, which was launched at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, in the near future.

The VF Wild concept features an integrated panoramic glass roof and digital wing mirrors to improve aerodynamics, and a flexible load bed that can be extended into the cabin’s rear through a folding mid-gate.

“We are proud to introduce the VF Wild concept, which encapsulates our mission to make sustainable, high-quality EVs accessible to a broader market,” says Tran Mai Hoa, deputy CEO of sales and marketing with VinFast Global.

“This is not just a new product in our offering. It showcases our aspiration to venture into the fast-paced and thriving electric pick-up truck market.”

Established in 2017, VinFast owns a manufacturing complex with globally leading scalability that boasts up to 90 per cent automation in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

In December 2023, the marque hinted the VF Wild and VF 3 would join its growing range in coming years, along with several SUV models already in production in Vietnam.

VinFast, which began building petrol-powered vehicles in 2019 before making the move to EVs in 2022, launched the VF 8 in California last year, and plans to launch its larger seven-seat VF 9 SUV in the US later this year.

Later in 2024, it also plans to launch is smaller SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, in America.
