New car sales keep climbing
There were 10,772 new passenger vehicles registered in October, which was up 16.5 per cent from 9,246 units in the same month of last year.
The new-vehicle market has had 96,736 registrations over the first 10 months of the year, a rise of 3.8 per cent from the same period of 2021 when it tallied 93,229.
Mitsubishi’s Outlander, pictured, was the top model on 1,030 units, compared with 702 in the same month a year ago, and accounted for 9.6 per cent of the market.
It is also the leading model for the year-to-date after selling 8,170 units and grabbing an 8.4 per cent share of activity.
Toyota’s RAV4 was the second most popular model last month on 746 registrations and a 6.9 per cent market share and its Corolla was third on 478 and 4.4 per cent.
Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Cross and Suzuki’s Swift were next up on 453 and 408 units respectively.
The RAV4 is also second on the year-to-date chart with 5,026 units, followed by the Eclipse Cross on 3,157, the Swift on 3,128 and Kia’s Sportage on 2,738.
Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in October with 2,226 registrations – down from 2,339 in the same month a year ago – and 20.7 per cent of the market.
Next up was Mitsubishi on 1,767 and 16.4 per cent and Kia with 1,003 and 9.3 per cent. Suzuki and Hyundai completed the top five with 787 and 567 units respectively.
Mitsubishi is the leading marque year to date with 14,971 units and a 15.5 per cent market share.
Toyota is second with 14,163 registrations and 14.6 per cent, followed by Kia on 10,181 and 10.5 per cent.
Suzuki has had 6,808 sales and seven per cent of the market year-to-date and Hyundai 6,589 and 6.8 per cent.
