Used commercials off to flyer
There were 576 used-imported commercials registered for the first time last month*, which was a 27.4 per cent increase compared to the 452 units in January last year.
Toyota stayed on top with 211 registrations for a market share of 36.6 per cent as its sales numbers climbed from 176 units in the same month of 2021.
Its Hiace, pictured, remained the leading model with 26.6 per cent of January’s market thanks to 153 sales, which was up from 128 for the same period a year earlier.
Nissan was runner-up on the marques’ ladder in January with 137 sales for a 23.8 per cent share of the market, and Hino was third with 49 units and 8.5 per cent. Those two marques enjoyed massive surges in activity with Nissan’s sales increasing 101.5 per cent from January 2021, while Hino’s were up by 88.5 per cent.
Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Ford took the next three respective spots on the marques’ ladder.
The Nissan NV350 was second in the model chart with 85 sales and a 14.8 per cent share of the overall total, while the Nissan Caravan was third with 34 units sold during January.
Most regions experienced an increase in the number of sales of used-imported commercials, including Auckland with a 23 per cent increase year on year from 183 units to 225.
Wellington’s numbers were up 20.5 per cent over the same period, from 39 sales to 47, while the number of units registered in Canterbury climbed 53.2 per cent, from 62 to 95.
