Tyrewise roadshow heads north

Staff from Tyrewise will continue to spread the word about the looming product stewardship scheme for end-of-life tyres (ELTs) by holding a series of roadshows in the North Island next week.
The events follow a number of similar functions in the South Island over the past few days, which saw members of the Tyrewise team talking to tyre sellers and other parties who will be affected by new regulations that come into force from March 1.
VTNZ is hosting the roadshows at its sites, with the first North Island stop at 847 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, on Tuesday, February 27.
The next destinations are 42 Matai Street, Tauhara, Taupo, on Wednesday, February 28, and 67 Maleme Street, Greerton, Tauranga, on Thursday, February 29. All the events will run from 7.30am to 8.30am.
Tyrewise is hitting the road ahead of the Waste Minimisation (Tyres) Regulations 2023 being launched at the beginning of March.
The new rules will see a tyre stewardship fee collected on all regulated tyres, whether lose or attached to a vehicle, when they enter the New Zealand market.
About 6.5 million tyres reach their end of life in New Zealand annually and the scheme aims to ensure as many of those as possible are taken to processors for recycling.
