Subaru recalls models over various faults

Subaru is recalling five different models after finding a range of problems that may need fixing.

Two possible faults have been identified on the marque’s Impreza, pictured, and XV built between 2017 and 2019.

The company warns the brake hoses on those models equipped with two-litre engines may swell during normal driving and the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may have been processed improperly.

A recall has also been issued for Foresters, Levorgs and WRXs manufactured between 2015 and 2018. The potential hazard in those cars is the insufficient tightening torque on front exhaust-pipe nuts.

Foresters built from 2013-15 are also being recalled because the rear coil springs may have been produced without sufficient protective coating. As a result, the spring may fracture when debris collects in the spring seat area and compromises the protective coating during normal driving.

The recall notice of April 7 advises owners of the affected vehicles to contact a Subaru dealer.

Skoda Superb, model years 2013-15

Recall issued: April 7. The hazard: Due to insufficient sensitivity of the function monitoring for the turn signals, a failure of the front-turn signal may not always be detected. In such cases, the required acoustic warning would not sound and the warning light wouldn’t be displayed. What to do: Contact a Skoda dealer.

Volkswagen Touareg, model years 2018-20

Recall issued: April 7. The hazard: The bolted connection between the steering shaft and steering rack may not have been correctly fitted. As a result, the car’s steering is not ensured and a possible failure is not displayed by a warning lamp in the instrument cluster. What to do: Owners of affected vehicles are being notified in writing.

Toyota Corolla, model year 2019

Recall issued: April 20. The hazard: Affected vehicles have a rear hatch containing a wire harness and connectors for electrical components. During conductivity testing, the contact gaps of a connector may have increased and over time the back-up lamps may become inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash. What to do: Owners will be contacted by letter or call Toyota’s customer dialogue centre.

Volkswagen Beetle, Caddy, Cross Polo, model years 2008-17

Recall issued: April 20. The hazard: A component in the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox may fail because of production deviations, which leads to a pressure loss in the mechatronic unit and interrupts the transmission between engine and gearbox. What to do: Contact your local VW dealer.
