Street Smart charitable lottery

The Street Smart Charitable Trust has launched its first charitable lottery, giving Kiwis the chance to win one of three 2025 Subaru WRXs while supporting hands-on driver training for teenagers.

The lottery features three once-in-a-lifetime motorsport experiences provided by the Tony Quinn Foundation and Formula 1 star Liam Lawson.

“I’ve seen first-hand how quickly things can go wrong on the road,” says Lawson, pictured. “Getting proper training for more young Kiwi drivers is something I’m 100 per cent behind. I’m stoked to be part of this.”

Reinvigorated in 2024 by motorsport entrepreneur Tony Quinn, the Street Smart programme was sparked by the loss of Kelan Stroud, who died in a three-vehicle accident in Cromwell Gorge last year – one month after obtaining his restricted driver’s licence.

Josie Spillane, chief executive officer of the Tony Quinn Foundation, says: “In the face of unimaginable tragedy, the Stroud family made a courageous decision that Kelan’s death would not be just another statistic.

“They partnered with our foundation, Street Smart and others to ensure Kelan’s story drives real change, helping make sure no parent ever receives the call they did.”

Exclusive motorsport experiences

The first experience up for grabs in the lottery is a Lamborghini Huracán hot lap with Liam Lawson on December 23 around Highlands Motorsport Park’s world-class circuit. The ticket for this must be purchased before December 14.

Then there’s the NAPA 70th NZ Grand Prix and Highlands Aston Martin Vulcan experience on January 31. This includes corporate hospitality access for two at the GP and a ride shotgun in an Aston Martin Vulcan, pictured below, with Tony Quinn. Only 24 Vulcans exist worldwide, each valued at $4.2 million.

Then, on April 11-12, there’s the ITM Taupo Super 440 Weekend Supercars experience for four. Included is general admission, access to the corporate hospitality members’ lounge, paddock pass and a fully catered suite over the weekend along with special guest appearances. The recipients are responsible for travel and associated costs for all three of these experiences.

Win one of three WRXs

Thanks to Subaru NZ, the first prize is a 2025 WRX tS, six-speed manual. It’s presented in world-rally blue and packed with STI performance components. Second prize is the iconic yet understated WRX tS 2.4 sedan in magnetite grey with Sti parts.

Then there’s the multi-ticket prize – buy two or more tickets in any one transaction and be in to win a WRX GT tS wagon in silica black with more than $27,000 worth of extras in the boot.

Tickets are $100 each with only 10,000 available. The lottery closes on December 21 and if you buy two tickets you get a third free. Visit StreetSmartLottery.org.nz. Terms and conditions apply.

About Street Smart

Street Smart, driven by the Tony Quinn Foundation Road Safety, is a hands-on driver-education programme designed to positively impact young Kiwis.

Unlike traditional defensive driving or classroom-based theory programmes, it offers a one-day, hands-on, practical experience in which drivers – and their parents or guardians – participate in activities, guided and coached by professional drivers. This approach helps young motorists and their mentors assess the skills crucial to their driving journeys.

The programme is held in safe, controlled environments with participants, under the guidance of trained coaches, engaging in real-world driving scenarios to enhance their skills. The goal is for young drivers to leave the programme as safer and more aware, and to learn by taking charge of their learning.
