A supercar with an asking price of $3.25 million was the most-viewed listing on Trade Me Motors last year after attracting 156,979 views.

The 2019 McLaren Senna GTR, one of just 75 worldwide and reportedly the only one in New Zealand, topped the chart ahead of a 2018 Ford GT and a 1959 Cadillac.

Also in the top 10 for 2023 was a Holden Commodore, a Land Rover and a yacht that once belonged to a famous New Zealand broadcaster.

Jayme Fuller, head of Trade Me Motors, says: “The top listings of 2023 show Kiwis are into all sorts of vehicles, whether it be a soon-to-be classic or a million-dollar supercar.

“The GTR, a more track-focused version of the Senna, can sprint to 100kph in just 2.7 seconds and go as fast as 352kph. If that sounds impressive, this incredible machine also weighs less than a Suzuki Swift.”

The Ford GT that took runner-up spot on the most-viewed ladder was also the second most expensive listing, with an asking price of $1.95m.

One of just two such models in the country, it can reach a top speed of 347kph and attracted 120,294 views.

Fuller adds a couple of items with celebrity connections also featured highly on the platform in 2023, including Kim Dotcom’s 1959 Cadillac notching 111,218 views to take out third place.

“An Elvis pink Cadillac was reportedly one of many assets seized when Kim Dotcom’s mansion was raided in 2012,” she says.

“More than 10 years later, it was up for auction and in fantastic condition.

“Another celebrity vehicle was a yacht belonging to Kiwi broadcasting veteran Paul Henry, Olive – named after Henry’s late mother. This is a very personalised Van Der Heijden Explorer motor yacht which sailed into 10th place with over 47,000 views.”

Also in the top 10 was a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, which started as a coupe, before being revamped to give it a fastback roofline, an offering of three Volkswagen Kombi vans, and a mobile classroom previously used by the Life Education Trust and its mascot Harold the giraffe.
