NZTA chair honoured

The chairman of the NZTA has been made a Companion of New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in the New Year Honour’s List for services to business and sport. Chris Moller’s citation states he has been at the forefront of key industries since the late 1980s, such as sport, dairy, tourism, transport, renewable energy and infrastructure. His positions have included CEO of the NZ Rugby Union and he previously worked in the dairy industry for 15 years. He served on NZX Ltd’s board for a number of years and has been the NZTA’s chairman since 2009. He is also chairman of Sky City Entertainment Group and became chairman of Meridian Energy in 2010. Moller, who trained as an accountant, was appointed chairman of the NZTA in March 2010 by Steven Joyce, Minister of Transport at the time, as the replacement for Brian Roche. At the time, Joyce said he was pleased to be able to appoint someone of Moller’s calibre to the position, which was critical to the delivery of the country’s infrastructure and public transport. “Given the role and functions of the agency, it’s imperative to ensure there are strong financial skills and experience on the board,” said Joyce. “Roche brought this depth and Moller will do the same.”
