New Range Rover breaks cover

The wraps have finally been pulled off the new Range Rover, which will be available in 2022 with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains before a pure-electric version joins the line-up in 2024.
It also comes with a choice of four, five or seven-seat interiors available across standard and long wheelbase body designs on the marque’s new MLA-Flex platform.
Nick Rogers, executive director, product engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, says: “The new Range Rover combines supreme on-road and all-terrain capability with electrified propulsion and new levels of connected capability.”
Launch engines will be the D350 diesel engine and a new petrol flagship, the P530 twin turbo V8 that claims to be 17 per cent more efficient than the previous Range Rover V8.
Two PHEV models – the P440e and P510e – will join the range a few months later and will combine Land Rover’s in-line six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 38.2kWh lithium-ion battery and a 105kW electric motor integrated with the transmission.
Land Rover says the PHEVs will provide a WLTP range of up to 100km of pure-electric driving, which is about 80km in the real world.
It adds that the packaging of the Range Rover’s battery beneath the vehicle and within the wheelbase ensures luggage space and all-terrain capability are uncompromised.
The first New Zealand deliveries are expected in mid-2022, with demand for the vehicles already high before the October 27 unveiling in London.
The new powertrains are wrapped up in a more modern styling for the luxury SUV, which will be available in SE, HSE and Autobiography models.
There is a refreshed front grille and at the back, the taillights and indicators have been incorporated into a panel that is opaque when the lights aren’t on.
Other features of the new Range Rover include an air purification system that targets allergen reduction and pathogen removal, an enhanced electronic air suspension package, a high-tech noise-cancellation system, power-assisted doors, and the latest in-car technology.
Land Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment system is delivered through a 13.1-inch curved, floating screen that works in harmony with a semi-floating 13.7-inch interactive driver display.
Rear passengers can enjoy their own entertainment on the road, with 11.4-inch HD touchscreens mounted on the rear of the front seatbacks.
