‘Most fun F1 drivers’ parade ever’
The Lego Group teamed up with Formula 1 to take over the Miami Grand Prix drivers’ parade last weekend after unveiling 10 fully driveable Lego big build racing cars.
The creations represented every team on the grid and all 20 F1 drivers completed a lap in their teams’ big builds as part of the May 4 parade.
Specially designed cockpits meant one person was at the wheel while their teammate sat behind trading banter with their rivals and recording the action.
It was probably the slowest lap in the careers of the current crop of drivers, but also one of the funniest.
Lewis Hamilton, a former world champion who races for Ferrari, clearly enjoyed the unusual outing and told F1TV “that was the most fun drivers’ parade we’ve ever had”.
Each car was created by a team of 26 designers, engineers and builders, over 22,000 hours at the Lego Group’s Kladno factory in the Czech Republic.
At a near 1:1 in scale with F1 cars, each big build features nearly 400,000 bricks, weighs 1,500kg, can reach speeds of 20kph and comes fitted with authentic Pirelli soft racing tyres.
All 10 cars will now embark on a global tour with appearances at future races and F1 calendar moments.
