New faces for agency
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has two new board members after Mary-Anne Macleod and Mike Rudge were appointed on three-year terms until October 31, 2027.
Simeon Brown, Minister of Transport, announced the pair started their roles on November 1 described transport as a critical part of the government’s plan to boost productivity and rebuild the economy.
“NZTA has a significant role to play in delivering our government’s ambitious work programme, increasing road maintenance and building a new generation of roads of national significance to get Kiwis where they want to go, quickly and safely,” says Brown.
“With backgrounds spanning governance, engineering and transport technology, I am confident that the NZTA board has the right mix of skills and experience to deliver our government’s priorities and the transport infrastructure that our country needs, at pace and in a way that achieves value for money.”
The appointments of Macleod, pictured left, and Rudge, right, come after Simon Bridges was made chair of the NZTA in March. Three new members – Pat Dougherty, Rob Gilmore and Warwick Isaacs – joined the board in August and David Smol was reappointed at the same time.
Rudge was the chairman of ITS NZ from 2019-24 after becoming a board member in 2016. He was responsible for developing and refining the organisation’s strategy, and has 40 years of infrastructure and transport experience in this country, Asia and the Pacific.
Macleod’s directorships have included AgResearch, Niwa, Fire and Emergency NZ and the Environmental Protection Authority. She was chief executive of Bay of Plenty Regional Council from 2011-18, and was general manager of reporting and review at the Ministry for the Environment from 2001-07.
Brown says he is pleased “New Zealanders of this calibre” have agreed to bring their skills and experience to the NZTA board.
“The collective experience across the board also covers central and local government knowledge, regulation, and land transport engineering,” he adds.
Brown thanked outgoing members John Bridgman and Ngarimu Blair for their services to the board since 2020 and 2021 respectively.
