More hybrids in RAV4 range

Two hybrids have been added to Toyota’s RAV4 range as more choice for buyers seeking low-emissions models.

The all-wheel-drive (AWD) hybrid-electric powertrain has been extended to the Adventure and all-new XSE grade with the latter having a higher level of fit-out than the GXL.

Steve Prangnell, Toyota NZ’s general manager of new vehicles and product planning says the RAV4 has been a runaway bestseller since its launch in early 2019. The new generation has sold 16,814 units since launch with 62 per cent being hybrids.

Added fuel efficiency and a carbon-dioxide output of 110g/km has resulted in high demand from private and fleet buyers.

Prangnell adds the addition of two more hybrid-electric grades to the RAV4 takes Kiwis’ choice to five options based on their needs and price-points.

Toyota’s hybrids offer carbon reductions of about 30 per cent on their petrol counterparts and “maintain the best of both worlds – lower emissions with no concerns about charging and range anxiety”. 

The XSE sits in the RAV4 range between the GXL and Limited grades at lower price point than the latter.

Distinguished by a two-tone sporty exterior design, the XSE adds gloss-black finishes to its lower bumpers, front grille, wheels, roof, wheel-arch mouldings and mirror covers. 

A premium interior also sets the XSE grade apart, with black synthetic leather seats with blue stitching accents and a black headlining. The front seats are heated and have sports-style bolstering.

The Adventure grade adds a new hybrid-electric powertrain giving kiwi consumers further choice. Its purposeful front-end design creates a commanding stance both on and off the road.

It also boasts new 19-inch wheels with dark-matte grey finishing and a new digital rear-view mirror. 

The RAV4 XSE HV 2.5L ECVT AWD 5D 5S starts at $52,990 and the Adventure HV 2.5L ECVT AWD 5D 5S is priced from $56,990.
