Melbourne show makes return

After an absence of 15 years, Melbourne Motor Show is finally back and will run from April 5-6.
The event will feature 25 car manufacturers and more than 80 automotive after-market brands.
Nine new vehicles will be launched at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre – both electric and petrol – as well as new models from existing manufacturers.
They will include BYD’s electric SUV, the Sealion 7, pictured. Its first consumer event follows its official launch on February 12 since when it has sold around 1,000 units.
“The Sealion 7 is redefining EV ownership,” says Luke Todd, the marque’s executive chairman. “It proves performance and sophistication don’t have to come with a luxury price-tag.”
Powered by BYD’s blade battery technology, the SUV’s performance variant boasts an acceleration of 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds.
Event organiser Craig Phinn says Melbourne lost an institution when its motor show wrapped in 2009.
“We’re back with a bang this year with something for adults and kids alike,” he adds. “It will be an outstanding day out.”
The show will include Hot Wheels collectables, a mega racetrack built for youngsters and an automotive zone featuring Lego cars.
Other attractions are VicEmergency’s electric fire truck, military vehicles, test drives, a Red Bull car on display, and off-road and adventure builds.
