Mazda names new CEO
Mazda has announced Masahiro Moro is set to become its new president and chief executive officer, pending the approval of the company’s shareholders and board at a meeting in June.
Currently a director and senior managing executive officer, he first joined the Japanese carmaker in 1983 before becoming manager of its global marketing division in 2002.
The 62-year-old, pictured, has also previously served as vice-president of Mazda Motor Europe and as head of the marque’s North America operations.
Moro will take over the top position from Akira Marumoto, who was appointed chief executive officer in 2018 and will continue to serve as an adviser when he steps down in June.
Mazda has also proposed to shareholders that Jeff Guyton, senior managing executive officer and its current North America head, become chief financial officer, reports Reuters.
The executive changes come after the company revealed a ¥1.5 trillion (NZ$17.9 billion) spending plan in November to increase electrification of its vehicles.
