Marque breaks own records
Mitsubishi Motors NZ (MMNZ) sold a “phenomenal” 2,810 new vehicles last month by nearly doubling its January 2021 result of 1,436 units and eclipsing its previous monthly high of 2,312 units, which was achieved in November last year.
The results led to it being crowned the number-one passenger car and light commercial brand for January with an overall market share of 22 per cent.
The new record was spearheaded by the Outlander and Triton ranges, which contributed 1,186 and 1,118 sales respectively – both record results as well.
Supply of the in-demand Triton was secured with an order for 5,000 units in September, largely in support of a large customer base of trade, infrastructure and agricultural workers ahead of the government’s feebate scheme.
Reece Congdon, MMNZ’s head of marketing and corporate affairs, says: “The Outlander has long been a Kiwi family favourite and the Triton just keeps winning more fans every year.
“Knowing the number of owners is also increasing across our full range is something that keeps driving us to do better.”
He adds the result was even more encouraging when it didn’t include the next-generation Outlander PHEV, pictured, which has its launch this month.
It will “provide a compelling and practical solution for customers looking to reduce their carbon footprint. With 500 pre-orders waiting to be filled, that car is going light up the segment”.
“While our desire to keep breaking records remains undiminished, so does our focus on exceptional customer service. This, along with the talent and dedication throughout our business and dealer network, is what fuels our success. We’re starting the year as we mean to go on.”
