Lamborghini goes all-electric

The Lamborghini Lanzador sits low on the road with the sharp, clean lines typical of the Italian marque’s cars.

The difference is this is Lamborghini’s first fully electric vehicle.

According to the luxury carmaker, the model will combine the performance of a supercar with the versatility of one that’s drivable every day.

The production version of the all-electric 2+2 grand tourer is due to launch in 2028 as the brand’s fourth model, joining the Urus crossover, Revuelto plug-in hybrid coupe and Huracan coupe, reports Auto News Europe.

The Lanzador concept was unveiled during the Monterey Car Week in California and has a high-powered electric motor on each axle, providing permanent all-electric drive and a peak power of more than one megawatt.

Practical features for everyday use include storage space beneath the bonnet, while adjustable rear seats and a variable rear luggage compartment also boost its load capacity.

The newly developed Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) driving dynamics control system is incorporated. Using more sensors and actuators, its active aerodynamics adapt the car to different driving situations, which can increase the range per battery charge and improve performance.

Lamborghini sold a record 5,341 vehicles globally in the first half of this year, 251 more than in the same period last year. The Urus was the best-selling model on 3,241 units, followed by the Huracan.

The production Lanzador will be built in Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, where the Volkswagen Group-owned marque is investing €1.9 billion (about NZ$3.5b) to 2027 in its shift to hybrid and electric cars.
