Import data process upgraded

An automated process has been introduced for fuel-consumption data to be entered in the motor-vehicle register (MVR).

It came in on January 28 to replace the manual system for which fuel-consumption statements needed to be completed.

Malcolm Yorston, technical manager at the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA), say this means that instead of printing the fuel statement, re-entering the data into the MVR and signing statements for records, all that’s now needed is to print or publish it and go into the register to check the information matches entry and export documentation. 

“You no longer need to keep a printed copy of the fuel-consumption statement,” he adds.

Waka Kotahi has also updated the fuel-consumption statement to match the MVR’s screens. “You’ll need to have a statement in the new format, which you can reprint or publish in Fuel Saver, in order to complete entry certifications.”

The transport agency has collected fuel-consumption information for vehicles entering the fleet since 2005. This includes new vehicles manufactured after January 2005 and imported after February 2005, as well as used vehicles from Japan made after January 2000 and imported after February 2005.

From February 1, 2009, requirements for this information for used imports was extended to vehicles from all countries. The fuel-consumption information rule applies to light vehicles except motorcycles. 

The agency says accurate and reliable information is needed to support government initiatives on climate change, energy efficiency and energy-conservation measures.
