Hollywood appeal helps car top listings
A type of car made famous by a classic movie has once again topped the standings for the most-viewed listings on Trade Me Motors.
A 1981 Other DeLorean DMC-12 with an asking price of $100,000 attracted 104,371 views in 2025 and follows in the footsteps of a 1982 model that was the number one listing in 2024 after being visited 97,676 times.
Brendan Hall, head of Trade Me Motors, says: “The DeLorean, famous for its role in Back to the Future, brings a huge amount of movie magic to the table.
“The massive viewing numbers prove that the dream of owning a piece of pop culture history is very much alive, and at a six-figure price, it’s a relatively accessible classic compared to the supercars on this year’s list.”
High-octane supercars, the first car Liam Lawson officially owned in New Zealand and a special boat also made this year’s top 10.
“This year’s list proves that whether it’s an ultra-exclusive supercar or a meticulously maintained classic, Kiwis are drawn to listings that stand out in terms of rarity, performance and luxury models,” adds Hall.
“The collective asking price of the entire top 10 list equals almost $4 million, which shows that even if they aren’t buying, Kiwis love to check out the top-tier end of the car market.”
Second on this year’s list was a customised 2000 Subaru Forester belonging to F1 star Lawson that was auctioned for charity. It attracted 88,633 views before selling for $35,300.
A 2023 Ferrari SF90 Spider was third with 46,797 views and an asking price of $899,990, and next was a 2014 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster viewed 39,909 times and a $449,000 price tag.
The most expensive listing in the top 10 was a 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto priced at $1,123,000, which attracted 30,120 views.
Breaking up the ranks of cars was a Stabicraft 2250 UCC, titled Matt Watson’s 2250 UCC Stabicraft Swordfish Mojo, with the boat claiming seventh place.
“This is a serious fishing vessel designed for heavy-duty offshore work and it reeled in 34,642 views with an asking price of $219,000,” explains Mr Hall.
“Its inclusion in the top 10, which is overwhelmingly dominated by high-end cars, shows that the demand for premium, purpose-built marine craft is also incredibly strong. It’s a very high-value asset, which naturally attracts intense scrutiny from potential buyers and enthusiasts.”
