Holden has given a clear indication of its product strategy by confirming more than one-third of its future models will be sourced from Europe.

Karl-Thomas Neumann, executive vice-president and president of GM Europe, made the announcement at the opening of the Paris Auto Show.

“It’s being spearheaded by Opel’s DRIVE! 2022 strategy,” he says. “I’m excited about the role our products will play in the resurgence of Holden by providing more than one-third of its future line-up. We are investing in new models, engines, transmissions and testing facilities to deliver world-class products to export markets.”

Gerry Dorizas, Holden’s chairman and managing director, adds three European-sourced vehicles will be launched in New Zealand and Australia in 2015 – and this is just the start of things to come.

“We are committed to bringing the best possible products from GM’s global portfolio to New Zealand customers to support a strong future for Holden,” says Dorizas.

“Holden and Opel share similar brand values, including commitment to performance, engineering excellence, vehicle dynamics and technology, which makes this such a strong and obvious partnership.

“Opel’s commitment to performance and quality aligns with Holden’s heritage and, in turn, these vehicles will benefit from being backed by one of New Zealand’s strongest brands.”

Earlier this year, Holden announced it will launch three European-sourced vehicles in the first half of 2015 – the Cascada convertible, Astra GTC and VXR three-door hatches and Insignia VXR performance sedan.

“The performance credentials and execution of the Astra, Cascada and Insigina are perfect matches for Holden and will provide more choice for our customers,” adds Dorizas.
