Group hails EV sales boost

Record numbers of electrified BMW and Mini models were sold in New Zealand last year with the brands delivering 135 per cent and 88 per cent more units, respectively, when compared with 2021.
The increases came after BMW recorded 454 registrations of electric vehicles in 2022, while Mini achieved 482 during the same period.
Adam Shaver, managing director of BMW Group New Zealand, says the results underline the company’s strategic model expansion and also reflect a rapidly evolving automotive market.
“We saw this growth in the same year the New Zealand government implemented forward-thinking policies to accelerate the adoption of electrified models and take important steps towards carbon neutrality – a move that has also undoubtedly played a role in changing customer mindsets,” he adds.
“We look forward to building on these results in 2023 as we continue to refine our product line-up and general brand direction to support the continued growth of our electrified vehicles well into the future.”
