GMC sets sights on New Zealand

General Motors has announced its GMC brand will be coming to New Zealand and Australia in 2025 as it expands into more international markets.
Sales are also set to begin in China this year to add to the company’s established operations in the US, Mexico, Canada and the Middle East.
GMC’s full-size SUV, the Yukon, pictured, will be the first model launched into the new markets and the move follows the launch of the marque’s Sierra ute in South Korea last year.
Duncan Aldred, global vice-president, says: “GMC is in the most exciting era in its history as we expect to grow competitively in our home market while venturing into new ones.
“We’re forging our future as a premium truck and SUV brand.”
The brand recorded a 6.5 per cent year-on-year increase in sales in 2023, which was its best performance since 2017.
In the US alone, GMC sold 563,677 vehicles last year, which was an increase of 8.9 per cent when compared with 2022.
The Sierra 1500 was its leading model on 189,288 units, followed by the Sierra HD and Acadia.
