Gilmour's GRC debut
Emma Gilmour did not make the cut for the final in the Global Rally Championship (GRC) but improved her track time throughout the heats. The Dunedin dealer became the first female rally driver to compete in the GRC and her RMR Hyundai Veloster Turbo rallycross was distinctive on the track – with pink stripes and tyre rims. “It's an unbelievable series - very exciting and anything can happen come the final race. We didn’t make the final but we kept improving each time we went out despite small mechanical issues and I will have a much better idea of what to expect next time,” she said on Facebook. Gilmour was placed fourth in all three of the heats she competed in, and was placed sixth in the last chance qualifier, missing out on competing in the final, which was taken out by Scott Speed. Gilmore’s next race outing is the New Zealand Rally Championship in Christchurch on the 1st of June.
