Furbies were the furry, gibberish-speaking toy every child wanted to have in the late 1990s, but a more grown-up, driveable version is now available to buy for nearly NZ$10,000.

As pimping cars go, this Volkswagen Beetle that has been covered with fake fur inside and out takes some beating. It also sports a pair of ears and a giant wind-up key at the back, which spins at the push of a button.

The car is being advertised on the UK’s Auto Trader website for £4,700 (NZ$9,840). The seller describes the replica Furby as a real “head turner … that gets attention wherever she goes … and is guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s faces”.

First registered in 1978, the two-door, 1.6L engine hatchback is being sold as a road-worthy car, with the seller confirming she took it on a 160km round trip recently with no problems.
