The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has welcomed the certainty provided by the passage of the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) Bill.

The legislation provides the framework for the transition to a low and zero-emissions future for Australia’s automotive industry, ensuring clarity for consumers and the industry.

Chief executive of the FCAI, Tony Weber, says the focus must now be on ensuring all Australians continue to have access to vehicles that meet their lifestyles and needs, and at prices they can afford.

“We recognise the challenges for industry in meeting the ambitious targets, and ensuring motorists have access to vehicles want to drive,” says Weber, pictured.

“We’re pleased to see the investment of more than $150 million towards NVES implementation in last week’s budget. It is vitally important that on January 1, 2025, when this policy is enacted, its administration operates effectively.

“We intend to work closely with the government and our members on the design and implementation of this scheme.

“Working together will be essential in addressing any challenges, and to ensure the transition benefits all Australian businesses and families and we remain on a pathway of emissions reduction.”
