Disposal of pyrotechnics

The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has been advised by the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) that it will longer be offering automotive pyrotechnic disposal.

VIA, in an alert to members, says the service is no longer available via the NZDF because a commercial operator has now been approved to dispose of pyrotechnic devices.

International Pyrotechnic Solutions Ltd (IPSL) has been approved by the authorities to carry out this type of work.

The company was created to service the needs of New Zealand vehicle companies affected by the international Takata airbag recall. A solution was required for the de-arming and disposal of hundreds of thousands of airbag inflators.

VIA says all enquiries should be referred to Len Julian, technical director at IPSL. Call (09) 416-8001 or email len@pyrocompany.co.nz.
