Director of Turners dies

It is with sadness and regret the board of Turners Limited advises of the death of director Michael Dossor on February 4 following a period of illness. He was a director of Turners Auctions since its listing in 2002 and was chairman from 2003 until its takeover by Turners Ltd in November 2014. Dossor joined the Turners Ltd board in January 2015. He was managing director of Turners and Growers before retiring in 2005, during which time Turners Group NZ was separated and listed. He remained a director of Turners and Growers, and was a director of McKay Shipping. He represented the interest of the investment company Bartel Holdings Limited, which has a 7.01 per cent shareholding in Turners Ltd. He was chairman of Turners Group NZ from 2003 until its takeover by Turners Ltd in November 2014. The 77-year old oversaw some major changes and steady growth in performance of the Turners Auctions business over that time, says Paul Byrnes, deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Turners Ltd. “He was totally supportive of Turners Auctions becoming part of the larger Turners Ltd Group, he contributed actively and positively to the wider business since his appointment to the Turners Ltd’s board in January 2015,” says Byrnes. “Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family.” Michael was also a board member of VINZ between 2004 and 2013. He was elected deputy chairman in November 2004 and held that position until his resignation. Euan Philpot, chief executive of JEVIC New Zealand, says the board and staff of VINZ "extend our deepest condolences to the Dossor family at this time". Dossor died “peacefully at his beloved Bramerton surrounded by family”, states a condolence noticed in the NZ Herald. “Most loved and respected dad and father-in-law of Suze and Rich Redmayne, Mark and Sally Dossor, Emma and Matt Bond and Rachel Dossor and Nathan Heath. Amazing and adored grandad of Sam, Ruby and Sophie, Rosie and Freddie, Mimi, Lily and Henry, and Toby, Pippa and Mabel. “Special friend and husband for many years of Robin Dossor. Loved and admired brother and brother-in-law of Judy and Charles Howell [deceased], Peter and Carol, David and Ruth, and Richard and Jenny. “Fun-loving uncle, cousin, colleague and friend to many. Huge thanks to the staff at Kahukura Palliative Care Services for their outstanding care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kahukura, 59 Renall Street, Masterton 5811 would be appreciated, or may be left at the church.” A service to celebrate Dossor’s life will be held at Old St Paul’s, Mulgrave Street, Wellington on February 11 at 4pm, followed by private cremation.
