Debut at Taupo Super400

Ford New Zealand has opened orders for the seventh-generation Mustang GT Convertible with a recommended retail price of $99,990.

Initial deliveries are scheduled to arrive in early 2025, slightly later than the GT Fastbacks and special-edition Dark Horse.

The new model is “the most exhilarating and visceral yet, from its fighter jet-inspired digital cockpit to advanced naturally aspirated engines to its edgier yet timeless exterior design”, according to the marque.

The convertible will be powered by an advanced, five-litre Coyote V8 paired with Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission that almost instantaneously reconfigures its shift patterns to match the selected drive mode. 

A fourth-generation engine is set to deliver the most naturally aspirated horsepower of any Mustang GT thanks to an innovative dual air-intake box and dual-throttle body design, which help minimise induction loss by enabling higher airflow rates.

The Ford Mustang is now in its 60th year, and dealers around Aotearoa have taken orders for the new GT and Dark Horse. 

“The Dark Horse is proving to be a very hot item with New Zealand allocation of the manual already selling out,” says the marque. “Dealers are still taking orders for the GT and a handful of Dark Horse automatics may still be available.”

For customers and fans wanting a sneak preview, Ford NZ has secured an early build all-new GT. The first seventh-generation Mustang to arrive in this country will make its Kiwi debut at 2024 ITM Taupo Super400 from April 19-21. 

The Mustang turned 60 on April 17 and Ford hosted celebrations around the world. More than nine million units have been sold since it was first launched in 1964. The blue oval says it’s the world’s most-liked vehicle on Facebook, and has made thousands of appearances in films, television shows and video games.
