Czech cars ‘best in world’
The Czech Republic produces the best cars while Japan only ranks 10th among a number of countries that have had reviews of their homegrown motors put under scrutiny.
A study was conducted by The Car Expert, a UK-based consumer advice site, and ranked countries from best to worst based on the vehicles and marques that were originally created there.
It consolidated car reviews from 30 top automotive websites for vehicles available in the UK into a percentage score to compile its final table.
The analysis placed the Czech Republic top of the pile with a 76 per cent average, thanks entirely to high scoring from Skoda, with Sweden in second place on 74 per cent.
Germany was third and while it had premium brands such as Porsche on 82 per cent, and BMW and Audi both with 73 per cent, its overall score was pulled down by Smart only managing 43 per cent.
Smart was the worst individual marque in the research and was some way off Japanese brand Subaru, which recorded the second-lowest score of 51 per cent.
Spain and the UK completed the top five, while Italy, Japan and France took the bottom three placings out of the 11 countries studied.
France’s fate was sealed by DS Automobiles receiving low marks across all five of its models, averaging 57 per cent, while Renault and Citroen were also towards the bottom of the rankings.
In contrast, French brand Alpine topped the marques’ ladder with 88 per cent, although this was based on the company only having one model, the A110 sports car, on sale in the UK.
