Boost for EV incentives

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has welcomed an extra investment of AU$5.2 million in the zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) rebate scheme run by the government in Western Australia.
The organisation says the scheme’s extension is critical to a low-emissions future and supporting EV uptake.
The ZEV rebate scheme and Western Australia’s ongoing investment in electric-car infrastructure are seen as critical steps towards reducing carbon emissions from the transport sector.
“These initiatives also support the adoption of EVs, and provide Western Australians certainty and reduce anxiety when purchasing a new technology,” says an FCAI spokesman.
“We look forward to ongoing collaboration with government to ensure the automotive industry continues to play a key role in achieving Australia’s pathway towards net zero. The FCAI is committed to supporting policies that encourage the growth of the EV market towards a low-emissions future.”
The scheme provides a $3,500 rebate for people who purchase an eligible vehicle and apply to the Department of Transport. As of March 31, more than 5,900 rebate applications had been paid to EV owners.
